Comiket 2011

One of my very favourite comics-related event ever, part of Comica Festival, Comiket 2011 has been even more exciting than usual!

I spent the whole Saturday 12th November at the recently refurbished Bishopgate Institute helping my friend Mark Haylock filming the event.
Talented cartoonist Claude TC helped filming as well.

Mark Haymock and Francesca Mancuso

I also took some breaks to browse the stands and buy postcards and pins from great illustrators and cartooninsts like lovely Zarina Liew and Katie green.

The thing I enjoyed the most? During the whole event great graphic novelists were drawing on stage for half an hour each, while their drawing was projected on a big screen!
I admire them a lot, I find it very intimidating to have people staring at my sheet while I am drawing on it! But they have done so well!

I had the pleasure to see all these great artists drawing live:

  • Posy Simmonds
  • Woodrow Phoenix
  • Luke Pearson
  • Jake
  • Warren Pleece
  • Sarah McIntyre
  • Frederick Peeters
  • Sally Kindberg
  • James Jarvis
  • Karrie Fransman
  • Hannah Berry
  • Brecht Evens
  • Battle of the Eyes: Savage Pencil & Chris Long
  • Roger Langridge

All the drawings made on stage

Also had a chance to talk to Andy Bleck, Rian Hughes, Philippa Rice, Sally-Anne Hickman, Corinne Pearlman, David O'Connell, Sean Azzopardi, Van Nim, John Miers.

Comiket 2011 - the crowd

Many special thanks to Paul Gravett, Peter Stanbury and Megan Donnolley who made this possible!

See you all at Comiket 2012 :)
